Matt and Sherry Gaarder, owners of Rapid Refill in Maryville, have expanded the business' philanthropic efforts to include Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County.
Located at 1111 S. Main St., Rapid Refill is working with BBBS by donating money it receives for empty inkjet and laser toner cartridges to the local youth organization.
Area residents can help by dropping off used cartridges at Rapid Refill and requesting the credit be given to BBBS of Nodaway County. Rapid Refill will either give the organization a check every month or when the amount of cash raised exceeds $50.
Lynette Harbin, program director for BBBS of Nodaway County, praised the locally managed franchise location for its effort to serve youth while helping clean up the environment
"As an organization run by donations, it's a great feeling anytime we can find other sources of revenue to support us," she said. "It means a lot to us that Rapid Refill understands the need for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County and is willing to take a brilliant step forward."
Similar efforts by Rapid Refill in the past have netted as much as $100 a month for local charities.
"This is a program we actually have out there for any non-profit organization," Gaarder said. "People can bring their empty ink cartridges into the store and say where they would like the credit to go. Whatever money we get from the empty cartridges is then given to that non-profit organization..."
