It was Dodge Challenger night for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the Adams County Speedway. Chris Spieker, Jeremy Tibben, Steve Churchill and Jesse Sobbing came out with victories.
In the Whelen late models Trent Jackson jumped to the early lead and pulled away from the field. Spieker came from his 10th starting spot to second fairly quickly and then had to reel in Jackson. As the pair caught up to the back of the field, Spieker seized the opportunity to get the lead. Spieker then sped off to his second win on the season ahead of Jackson, Leon Zeitner, Paul Glendenning and Jason O’Brien.
Tibben’s bad finish a week ago landed him on the front row of the Budweiser modified feature this week and he did all he could to make a boring race. A caution on the white flag lap set up a green-white-checkered finish and brought Tibben back to the rest of the pack. Jesse Dennis had started 14th and worked to second and Ryan Peckham had suffered an early race flat tire before coming back to third and they were on the heels of Tibben for the restart. Dennis charged to the inside of Turn 1 on the restart to take the lead and then swapped lanes allowing Tibben to turn back to the bottom to retake the lead. Tibben was then able to ease away to take his second win of the season. Dennis, Peckham, Brian Foote and Russell Stewart rounded out the top five.
After a few cautions before a lap could be completed in the Northland Oil pro street feature, Mike Garner found himself on the outside of the front row and he jumped to the early lead. Greg Miller wiggled out of traffic in a hurry and took the top spot by lap 5. Miller was then challenged by Churchill. Churchill tried in vain for a long time until he got around Miller by moving one lane higher on the track than Miller. Miller fought to the end, but it was Churchill taking his first win of the season ahead of Miller, Mike Garner, Craig Garner and Jeff Orr.
Pat Shiflett jumped to the early lead in the NAPA hobby stock feature and held off the challenges of Matt Hudson to maintain the lead. Hudson was then passed for second by Tom Myers and Sobbing. Shiflett would lead until a suspension failure ended his run at the front. Sobbing took over from there and fended off the pressure of Hudson and Brad Derry to score his first career ACS victory after coming close many times. Sobbing was followed by Derry, Hudson, Matt Williamson and Jeremy Auten.
