It’s been more than 20 years since Janet Moody, then Janet Clark, donned the Northwest uniform and competed on the hardwood as arguably the best women’s basketball player in Bearcat history.

Since then, she’s dedicated her life to teaching physical education, spending the past 15 years in rival territory down in St. Joseph.

But that doesn’t mean Moody has traded in her Northwest green and white for Missouri Western black and gold. Far from it, actually.

A poster commemorating the Bearcat football team’s 2009 national championship decorates Moody’s office at Coleman Elementary. Oh, she attends a few Griffon athletic events here and there. But it’s always when they’re playing Northwest, and there’s no doubting who she is there to support.

“I just can’t do it (root for Mo. Western),” said Moody, who played for Northwest from 1986-89. “It’s that rivalry.

“I loved my experience at Maryville, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I love the Bearcats.”
