Seventeen Maryville High School cheerleaders attended the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) cheer camp held at UCM in Warrensburg, Mo. June 12-14, 2008.
The three- day camp taught cheers, chants, spirit dances, stunts, spirit-promotiong techniques, and team building activities. The two division for Maryville cheerleaders were non-varisty and varsity. Many awards and honors were earned during the camp.
The varsity earned three spirit sticks and two excellent and four superior ribbons for their evaluations. They also received the Superior Squad trophy, and a third place trophy were earned. The All Star competition is the highest individual award given at UCA camps.
Four varsity MHS cheerleaders participated in the All Star try-outs: seniors were Shasta Mutz, Schylar Martin, Bailey Long, and Whitney Wallace. Selected as All Stars were Schylar Martin and Whitney Wallace. The All-Star tryouts consisted of jumping, the Extreme Dance routine, and the camp cheer. An honorary All Star award was presented to senior, Meghann Parshall. Meghann was being treated at the emergency room for heat exhaustion during the tryouts and was unable to participate.
Varsity Cheerleaders attending the camp were Seniors: Bailey Long, Schylar Martin, Shasta Mutz, Meghann Parshall, and Whitney Wallace; Juniors: Libbey Howell, Maleah Marlow, and Kathryn Prothero; and Sophomores: Brook Allenbrand, Carrie Chapman, Shelby Johns, and Casey Lemons.
In the non-varsity division, the MHS freshman cheerleaders competed. They earned many awards also.
Three spirit sticks and two excellent and two-superier ribbons were received during the evaluations. Also, they were presented a trophy for the non- varsity Camp Championship Cheer competition.
Freshman cheerleaders attending the camp were LIndsey Carmichael, Haley Cronk, Kelsi Green, Kathleen McDonald, and Taylor Ross.
Coaches, Sandy Messner, and Lindsey Allee received certificates for completing the UCA Coaches Program during the three- day camp.
