The Maryville Lady Spoofhound softball team notched its first victory of the year, Monday afternoon, defeating South Harrison, 9-0, on the Maryville high school field.
"I'm going to be happy with the win," stated Maryville head coach Jacqui Conn. "We still need to tighten the screws a little bit in some areas, but it's the first game of the year, so that's okay. We made some good heads-up plays, but we're still not as sharp as I'd like us to be."
Leading 2-0 going into the bottom of the third inning, Taylor Gadbois laid down a bunt single for her second hit of the day. She promptly stole second, advanced to third on Amanda Nally's single and scored on Holly Wilmarth's single. Nally was driven in by Molly Stiens' hit and Wilmarth crossed home when Jordan Wallace hit into an error by the South Harrison leftfielder.
Wallace later scored on a sacrifice fly by Bailey Scarbrough and the host Lady Hounds enjoyed a comfortable 7-0 lead.
Sophomore pitcher Mikaila Wallace, in her varsity debut, threw seven innings of shutout softball to record the victory. Wallace allowed just three hits and a walk, while striking out three Bulldog batters...
