On a roster that includes three All-Americans and seven First Team All-MIAA selections, it was little-known third-string quarterback Tyler Adams who stole the show at Saturday's Green and White Scrimmage at Bearcat Stadium.
Adams, a redshirt freshman from the high school football hotbed of Odessa (TX) Permian, concluded the hour-long scrimmage by leading the Bearcat second team offense on two scoring drives.
Adams completed all five passes on the first scoring drive, capped by a touchdown pass over the middle to redshirt freshman receiver Clint Utter. On the final play of the scrimmage, Adams connected with junior wideout David Mosley on a pump-and-go-route down the left sideline for a 48-yard touchdown pass.
"Trevor Adams today, our back-up quarterback, our No. 3 quarterback really, he got in there and ran that No. 2 group like he owned them and did a great job," said Northwest Missouri State head football coach Mel Tjeerdsma.
Adams was one of several younger players that got an extended look Saturday because starters like junior wide receiver Jake Soy and sophomore running back Billy Creason sat out the scrimmage with minor injuries.
