With Nicole McGinness-Miller now in charge, the Maryville High School girls tennis team aims to improve on last year's 2-6 record and eighth place finish at districts.

There are many signs that suggest the Spoofhounds will show progress this year.

Maryville returns its top three players and four of its top six. Sophomore Mara Veasey emerged as Maryville's No. 1 singles player last year as a freshman. Senior Elizabeth Schieber and senior Maria Mercer are back in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.

Senior Bree Skipper will move up to No. 4 in the lineup.

"All of the tennis team gets along really well which makes for a positive attitude for everyone," said McGinness-Miller.

The Spoofhounds have to find replacements for Alexa Walker and Lauren Suchan.  Jill Ireland, Abi Shipley, Shannon Johnson, Emily Schreck, Jessica Lutz and Elena Belamny will all have a chance to crack the top six.

Maryville began its season Monday at Chillicothe. The Spoofhounds then hit the road for two tournaments and five duals before the conference meet on Sept. 29.
Districts are Oct. 4.  Maryville will match up against Benton, LeBlond, Cameron, Lafayette, Savannah and Trenton.
