If the first series of plays, both offensively and defensively, were any indication, the South Nodaway Longhorns could be considered one of the top eight-man teams in the area.

After pinning the visiting Southwest Livingston Wildcats at their own 17-yard line to open the game, South Nodaway's defense looked impressive, stuffing their opponents on three straight plays and forcing them to punt.

On the Longhorns' first offensive play from scrimmage, Cody Burden burst around the left side and sprinted 63 yards for a touchdown and the home team enjoyed a 6-0 lead less than two minutes into the season-opening contest.

Unfortunately for the Red and Black, that would be the only time they would lead in the game, as they fell to defeat, 66-14, Friday night, on their home field...
