Northeastern State (Okla.) University and the University of Central Oklahoma on Thursday accepted offers to join the MIAA.
The conference is also in the process of considering an application from Lindenwood University, an NAIA school that recently received NCAA Div. II candidacy. MIAA presidents confirmed last month that the University of Nebraska-Kearney is also on the conference's wish list, as the MIAA looks to expand from 12 to 16 members.
Work will begin in the next few weeks on timelines and transition issues for the additions of NSU and UCO, which are currently members of the Lone Star Conference.
“The MIAA is excited about the prospects of expansion,” MIAA CEO Council Chair Pat Taylor said in a press release. “Central Oklahoma and Northeastern State are two terrific universities, and they would be great additions to the league.”
Northwest Missouri State's Director of Athletics Bob Boerigter has said that Northwest favors conference expansion.
