In a doubleheader pitting the two co-leaders in the MIAA, the pitchers stole the show.

Nebraska-Omaha and Northwest Missouri State split a pair of 1-0 games Tuesday, keeping both teams in a first place tie atop the MIAA standings.

In the first game, UNO's Beth Haley outdueled Northwest ace Jenna Creger.

Morgan Brunmeier returned the favor in game two, tossing a complete-game shutout as the Bearcats handed No. 21 UNO its first loss in league play and put an end to its 12-game win streak.

Northwest steadied its record at 19-9 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA. UNO dropped to 30-6 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA.

"Their pitchers threw great. Our pitchers threw great," said Northwest Missouri State head softball coach Ryan Anderson. "It was good to have the pitching performances on our side especially."

The four starters allowed a total of six hits and two runs in the two games.

Haley (13-3) threw a one-hit shutout in game one with eight strikeouts and no walks. This was her fourth straight shutout and sixth consecutive start without allowing an earned run.

Kristen Uthe's second inning single was the only hit for the Bearcats. Only two other Bearcats reached base, both on errors.

Pinch-hitter Lindsay Redding drove in the game's only run with an RBI single through the right side in the fifth inning.

Ashley Lynch, who got on with a double, came around to score.

Creger (10-6) was the day's first tough-luck loser.

She permitted just five hits and one run in seven innings with seven strikeouts and only one walk.

"One was a diving bloop off Rachael (Schmitz's) glove and another was a slow-roller up the middle," said Anderson of the hits off Creger. "They didn't hit her hard at all either. It's one of those we wish Jenna could've got the win especially. She threw well enough to win."
