As all good Bearcats know, the Northwest Missouri State University football team wasn't the school's only national championship squad in 2009-2010.

The Bearcat cheerleaders also claimed a national championship — their first ever — on Jan. 16 at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla.

Now, the squad's winning performance will be aired on national television. The pre-recorded broadcast of the College Nationals Competition is set for 3:30 p.m. this Sunday, March 21, on ESPN 2.

For the fourth year in a row, the Bearcats earned all 15 points on their crowd tape score, which is based on what the team does at home football and basketball games.

The Bearcat cheer unit bested second-place Slippery Rock and eight-time defending champion West Georgia to win the national trophy, turning in a near-flawless routine while being judged on partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, tumbling and cheer section.

Northwest mascot Bobby Bearcat placed third, and the Bearcat Steppers placed sixth. All three Bearcat squads are under the guidance of coach Jason Sack.
