Then, things just fell apart.
Smithville scored 22 fourth quarter points and overcame a six-point deficit to beat Maryville 53-49 in MEC action.
It's the second straight year in which Maryville (8-11, 0-3) has been unable to hold on to a second half lead against Smithville. Last year, the Warriors rallied from 14 down at half to beat the Hounds by one.
The Warriors (7-12) hadn't scored score more than 13 points an any quarter and were coming off an eight point quarter in the third before erupting in the fourth.
Smithville's Brock Mick led all scorers in the game with 23 points. Austin Frerichs also hit double-figures with 10. He hit three of Smithville's five three-pointers.
The Hounds were led by Jonathan Baker with 20 points. He hit four from downtown. Treyton Burch hit a pair of triples and finished with eight points.
Tyler Kenkel and Eric Martin each had six. Tyler Walter was limited to five points.
