West Nodaway, Nodaway-Holt win big in openers

Union Star 8

The West Nodaway Rockets needed less than three quarters to complete their 58-8 annihilation of Union Star Friday.
West Nodaway led 36-0 after one quarter and 50-0 at the half.

Quarterback Aaron Moser had four touchdown runs of 28, 20, 10 and 4 and a 28-yard touchdown pass. He finished with 62 yards rushing and 31 yards passing.

Brandon Whittington and Matt Saville each had a touchdown run.

Landon Wood caught two touchdown passes— one from Moser and one from Barnett. He finished with 48 receiving yards.

Union Star scored its only touchdown at the end of the first half on a 60-yard pass from Kolby Barnett to Nick Palmer.
West Nodaway (1-0) takes on defending 8-man state champion Mound City Friday at 7 p.m. in Mound City.

Nodaway-Holt 44
Hardin Central 28

Blake Shamberger rushed for 153 yards and added 97 through the air to lead Nodaway-Holt past Hardin-Central 44-28 Friday in Hardin.

Hardin-Central 20-0 in the second and third quarters to extend its lead to 38-14. The Trojans added another score in the fourth quarter to keep Hardin-Central at bay.

Nodaway-Holt (1-0) plays at Worth County Friday at 7 p.m.
