The Southwestern Community College Night saw some rain in the morning at the Adams County Speedway, but picture perfect weather for dirt track racing followed for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series in CORNING, Iowa.

The Poet Bio Modifieds started their A Feature with a caution flag on the first lap with Chris Spieker rolling his number 56 car in a log jam of cars in turn 1.  Despite rolling numerous times, Spieker walked away from the wreck.

Spieker was determined to redeem himself in his late model car and he did just that with his second A Feature Barker Implement Late Model win of the ’09 season.

“Winning the late model helps heal the pain of my modified race...a little,” Spieker said with a smile in victory lane.  “I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time in the modified feature.”
Spieker started in the sixth position and took the lead eight laps into the race. Spieker held off Paul Glendenning for the win. Justin Zeitner finished third, Leon Zeitner fourth and Trent Jackson fifth.

Ryan Peckham won his second A Feature of the season in the Poet Biorefining Modifieds as did Brad Derry in the Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks.

After the debris from the wreck on the first lap of the Poet Bio Modified Feature race, Ryan Peckham jumped out to a commanding lead from his starting outside poll position. Mark Hoover and Alison Quick battled for second while Chris Hogan and Brian Foote scrapped for the fourth position.

A caution with nine to go allowed the rest of the pack to catch back up with Peckham who had a dominating three second lead over the second place Quick.

Peckham returned to form though as he jumped out to another commanding lead. Another caution proved to provide a barn burner finish as the modifieds ended on a green/white checkered flag.
Chris Hogan pushed Ryan Peckham to the finish and Peckham was able to hold him off for the checkered flag.

“I was able to get through all the lap traffic which wasn’t easy at times,” Peckham said after the race. “We started up front and were able to hang on for our second win of the season.”

Foote, Quick and JC Wyman rounded up the top five.

It didn’t take Brad Derry long to take the lead as he started fourth and then secured the top spot after just one lap in the KMA Pro Street A Feature.

Derry had to hold off points leader Greg Miller for the win though.

“I saw Greg coming so I just kept my line and what was working for me and it paid off.”  Derry said.

Greg Miller was on the move from his starting position of 12th but couldn’t quite catch Derry at the end. Joe Zadina piled up another top five finish. He took the third spot, while Jason Rold finished fourth and Matt Hudson fifth.

After a few cautions in a row, the Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks got it going with Jerod Weston leading the way. Matt Williamson took advantage and made some great moves to move from 10th to second.

Williamson challenged Weston for the lead and got it with four laps to go. Williamson stretched his lead to where no one could catch him.

“I was hoping no cautions came out at the end,” Williamson said after the race. “I’m happy and hope I get more wins because this feels really good.”

The battle was then for second place with Jerod Weston and Pat Shiflett. Shiflett won the battle and secured second with Jerod Weston in third, Trent Davison in fourth and Josh True in fifth.  Join the Adams County Speedway Saturday June 13 for the Chat Mobility Kids Money Grab Night. Kids will have the chance to gather up $750 that will be spread across the front stretch during intermission.

Gates open at 5 p.m. Hot Laps are at 6:30 p.m. Racing starts at 7 p.m.
