Mr. James Edward Burnsides, 70, of Maryville, Mo., passed away at his home in Maryville on Sunday, May 31, 2009.

He was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Forbes, Mo. He attended school in Oregon, Mo., Fort Calhoun, Neb. and graduated from the Craig High School in 1956.

Jim married Elizabeth Ann Jones and they were parents of two children: Mark Burnsides and Teresa Burnsides, both of Maryville.

Jim was a tow boat pilot for Massman Construction Company on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers for 27 years. In 1984, he and Liz opened the Galley Restaurant in Mound City. In 1994, they moved to Maryville and he helped with the maintenance of the Uptown and Downtown Carwashes.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray; and his mother-in-law, Dorothy M. Dodson.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of the home; son, Mark Burnsides and his wife, Marla; daughter, Teresa Burnsides, all of Maryville; his mother, Berniece Burnsides of Mound City; six grandchildren: Eryn Stepp and husband, Tony, Jonah Loucks and wife, Jodi, Mallory Budden and husband, Alex, Courtney Loucks, Miraya Barmann and husband, Greg, and Myles Burnsides; and four great-grandchildren: Nichele Davidson, Ian James Stepp, Colton Loucks, and Leah Loucks.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, United Methodist Church, Mound City, Mo. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery, Mound City. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Pettijohn & Crawford Family Funeral Service, Mound City. The family suggests memorial gifts to Northwest Foundation/Football (to benefit the Northwest Missouri State University Football Team), 800 University Drive, Maryville, MO 64468-6001.
