Dorothy May McCord, 88, Pickering, Mo., formerly of Barnard, Mo. died on Thursday, June 18, 2009, at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville, Mo.
Born Nov. 25, 1920 in Quitman, Mo., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Myrtle Hughbanks Gossard.
Dorothy was a 1937 graduate of Pickering High School and received a B.S. in Education from Northwest Missouri State University. A teacher in rural schools, she retired from South Nodaway High School, Barnard, after 33 years of teaching.
On June 6, 1943, she married Sherman McCord who preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1993.
A homemaker, Dorothy was a member of the Barnard Christian Church, and the Order of Eastern Star, Savannah, Mo.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, son John (Nov. 15, 1961), brothers Ernest and John Wilson Gossard, and sister Irene Johnson.
Surviving are sister, Lois Gossard, Pickering; nephews Bret Johnson, Paris, France, Ben Johnson, Blue Eye, Mo., James Gossard, St. Louis, Mo.; and nieces Karen Winters, St. Louis, and Holly Sprick, Lenexa, Kan.

Dorothy McCord's body has been cremated and no service will be held.
