Josephine (Jo) Hazel Cook, 69, Maryville, Mo., passed away Aug. 14, 2010, at home surrounded by her family.
Born February 7, 1941, in Afton, Iowa, Josephine was the daughter of the late David LeRoy and Hazel Ross of Shannon City, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her sister Gertrude Jennings and brother David Ross.
Josephine is survived by her husband Gary L. Cook, Maryville; daughters Julie Andrews, Van Alstyne, Texas, and Jeanette Collin, Maitland, Mo.; brother Richard Ross, Shannon City, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Josephine was a graduate of the inaugural class of LPN nursing in 1969, from Northwest Missouri State College. She proceeded to achieve her RN degree from Missouri Western State College, a BS degree in Nursing and a Master of Science degree in Psychology from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. Josephine worked for several years for Dr. Robert Dunshee, Maryville, as well as St. Francis Hospital, finishing her nursing career at Parkdale Manor Care Center in 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17 at Price Funeral Home, Maryville. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. at Price's on Monday, Aug. 16.
Burial will be in the Hopkins, Mo. Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff of SSM Hospice at St. Francis Hospital for the care and compassion the last days of Josephine's life.
