I really don’t know the time or the place, all I know is one day I looked down to my cup and saw myself filling it with black gold aka coffee.
All I do know is that I can’t seem to function any more without it. Plus, not only do I need it but I need it a certain way. Like all those clever artistic characters you see on television with the soul patches and bad attitudes toward society.
I have to have cream, lots of it, a couple packets of Sweet N’ Low, and maybe some other types of flavoring to take away the taste.
Oh by the way, I can’t stand the taste of pure black coffee at all. Which is strange since why would you drink something you really dislike? That is a question that could be asked at bars all over America.
So why do I need it and what caused me to take on this vice that has become my morning ritual?
Well for one, when I first noticed the habit, I was under a lot of stress at the job I was working at, at that stage of my life. The coffee seemed to take the edge off.
Then there is the “Starbucks” effect to consider. Everyone else was doing it, so why shouldn’t I partake?
I know, I know, if everyone was jumping off a cliff would I do that too? Possibly, depends on the day I was having at that point.
Just kidding and moving on.
With Starbucks I was introduced to the whole new world of flavored coffee and the different varieties that coffee could encompass.
So coffee didn’t just have to be bland, black coffee. It could taste like cookies if you added just the right combination.
Score! I’m in!
Then there was the overwhelming need to be considered an adult. You can’t really be taken seriously if you meet up with your co-workers to chat and they are drinking coffee and you are milking a slurpee that you just had to have that morning.
Coffee was just more dignified in my eyes back then.
Now you look around and you see coffee bars popping up all over the world. We even had one here in town until a fire cut off my source of caffinated goodness that must be sustained by being self-brewed.

Speaking of which I really need that local establishment to get up and running again. I promise I would be the first person in line once it reopens, if it ever does.
In closing, yes I just wrote a column about coffee. Considering I had nothing else to write about, I would consider this a success.

Also, for all those internet people out there, and I know there are a lot of you, you really need to look into some legislation that is being looked at on Capital Hill and how it may affect you. Namely the Stop Online Piracy Act & the Protect IP Act.
You really need to educate yourself on what these laws could do to your everyday internet life. It is worth looking into and voicing an opinion on.
I will go into more detail on how these laws could affect you and me next week.
Unless you want to stop by sometime and discuss it over a bubbling hot cup of joe.
