Clyde resident wows fair judges with farm photo

It's been a picture-perfect week for amateur photographer Kandie Lager, Clyde, whose dramatic image of tractors and windmills silhouetted against a yellow dawn on the Dennis Redden farm east of Conception won first place in the Beauty of the Farm category in a photo contest at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

Lager, who owns and operates Something Country, a convenience store and diner just off High 136 in Conception, said she received an e-mail Saturday from the Missouri Department of Agriculture, who sponsored the contest, telling her she had won.

Not that Lager was the only Nodaway County shutterbug to impress the judges. One of her neighbors, Chris Mattson of Conception Junction, received honorable mention in the Faces of the Farm category for "Parker's Patch," a winsome shot of a toddler astride a toy tractor in a cornfield.

Lager, who has been taking pictures for nearly 30 years...
