Dale Kisker, a mathematics teacher and assistant girls basketball coach at Maryville High School, died unexpectedly Saturday night of an apparent heart attack. He was 52.

MHS Principal Jason Eggers said Monday he was informed of Kisker's death over the weekend by Assistant Superintendent Steve Klotz. There were no immediate details with regard to funeral arrangement or memorial services.

Eggers did say that classes would be canceled district-wide on the day of the funeral so that students, faculty and staff could attend the service.

In the wake of the tragedy, tonight's basketball games against Bishop LeBlond High School have been postponed as have Thursday's contests with Smithville. Monday's games were also postponed.

Kisker primarily taught algebra I and geometry. Eggers described the veteran educator as a popular teacher noted for his jovial personality and ability to relate to students and parents alike.

"He was laid-back and fun," Eggers said, "but there were high expectations also."

Kisker joined the R-II district 12 years ago and coached the freshman boys basketball team before being named assistant for the girls squad.

MHS Athletics Director Paul Snow said Kisker helped lead Spoofhound teams to numerous conference and district titles over the years and also served as an assistant baseball coach and kept statistics for football and other sports.

A high point was helping lead the girls team on which his daughter Emily played guard to the state Class 3 semifinals in 2010.

"He was very successful, very dedicated and very well-liked," Snow said. "He loved kids, he loved sports, and he did a lot of things for us."

Snow said about a dozen counselors from both R-II and neighboring districts were on the MHS campus this week to assist students and staff in need of emotional assistance in dealing with Kisker's death.

Kisker is survived by his wife, Tammy, and the couple's three grown children. Arrangements were pending at Price Funeral Home.
