Some lucky person will get to go home with $1,000, but the real winners following this year's Maryville R-II Educational Foundation Elimination Dinner and Silent Auction will be students served by the local school district.
This year's fundraiser will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at the Maryville Community Center. All proceeds directly benefit Maryville's four public schools.
As for that $1,000, each guest will receive a number that corresponds to a numbered ball. One by one the balls will be drawn, eliminating those in attendance until only the winner left.
In addition to the $1,000 grand prize, a number of $50 awards will be made throughout the evening.
"The elimination game is always popular because it involves absolutely no skill, and that makes for a great evening,” said event organizer Kelley Baldwin.
Only 200 reservations are available for the dinner/auction. Tickets cost $25 and can be purchased beginning Wednesday, Feb. 1, at the R-II district office located at 1429 S. Munn Ave. in Maryville. The first 30 tickets purchased will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.
The evening will also include a Taste of Maryville buffet dinner featuring dozens of offerings prepared by area caterers and restaurants.
New this year will be a $500 Country Club Plaza shopping spree, which requires additional purchase. Only 35 chances will be sold for the Plaza game, Baldwin said.
Silent auction merchandise will include preferred seating at Maryville High School graduation ceremonies and selected theatrical and musical performances as well as reserved parking at 2012 Spoofhound home football games.
District supporters can also bid on the opportunity to have Spoofy the Spoofhound appear at a child’s birthday party and to receive broadcast booth passes for a Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats home football game.
A "junior broadcaster" package will give one youngster the chance to visit the KQ2 Television studio in St. Joseph and appear on air.
