For 100 years — 100 years today as a matter of fact — the Boy Scouts of America have had one overriding mission. Give boys the training, experience, role models, self-discipline and values they need to become good men.

One such man is Ross Johnson III, an 18-year-old Maryville High School senior who recently completed his Eagle Scout requirements and will receive Scouting's highest rank during Court of Honor ceremonies later this year.

To local prep football fans, Johnson is perhaps best known as a hard-hitting linebacker for the Class 2 state-champion Maryville High School Spoofhounds. And Johnson admits that his Scouting career has taken somewhat of a back seat to sports over the past couple of years.
