The 2009 Nodaway County Fair Queen contest took place Saturday, June 27, at the Maryville Chamber of Commerce meeting room.
Jessica Farrell, daughter of Ben and Angela Farrell, was chosen to reign over the 2009 Nodaway County Fair –– Thursday, July 16 through Saturday, July 18.
Although there were only two contestants, Nodaway County will be well represented not only during the fair, but at various events throughout the year.
Both Farrell and Brandie Cain, daughter of Rob and Teresa Cain, were required to present a five-minute speech on a topic of their choice.
The panel of three judges then asked the contestants questions about their chosen topics. Farrell spoke about the changes in her life through the years of high school and Cain spoke about the importance of bees in our area.
Judges for the contest were Robin Wisneski, Leigh Ann Lewis and Lindsey Fletchall.
Cain was named Miss Congeniality. Sarah Schumann, daughter of Jim and Karen Schumann, Barnard, the 2008 Nodaway County Fair Queen, crowned Farrell and presented both young women with a bouquet of flowers.
Schumann encouraged Farrell to move on to the Missouri State Fair Queen contest.
The 2009 Nodaway County Fair Queen will be introduced on stage the first night of the Nodaway County Fair –– Thursday, July 16. Farrell will be visible throughout the fair celebration –– riding in the parade on Saturday morning, helping with the livestock show. She will be visible at events around the county throughout her reigning year –– helping with Winter Wonderland and other projects.
