Two of the top military concert ensembles in the world will perform in Maryville at 8 p.m. Friday, April 9, when the United States Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants take the stage at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Northwest Missouri State University.
The concert is being jointly sponsored by the "Maryville Daily Forum" and Northwest's Department of Music. Admission is free, but obtaining tickets is recommended in order to ensure seating.
Tickets will be available beginning this Friday at the "Daily Forum" office, 111 East Jenkins, and at the Northwest music department office on the first floor of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building.
Founded in 1941, The United States Air Force Band and its components — the Air Force Strings, Airmen of Note, Ceremonial Brass, Concert Band, Max Impact and the Singing Sergeants — has performed around the world. Its members are also heard and seen on numerous radio and television shows and compact discs.
Known as “America’s International Musical Ambassadors,” the organization frequently makes goodwill tours across the United States and many foreign countries.
The Concert Band — the premier band of the United States Air Force — is an internationally recognized symphonic wind ensemble. It performs a wide-ranging repertoire than includes light classics, popular favorites and bravura instrumentals featuring both classical transcriptions and original works for wind ensemble.
For many years, the Concert Band has also served as a champion of new works for band and has dozens of world premieres to its credit.
The Singing Sergeants is the official chorus of the United States Air Force and is also one of the world’s most versatile and traveled choral organizations. A mixed ensemble, the chorus performs a varied repertoire that includes opera, traditional and contemporary choral literature, folk songs, pop standards, musical theater and jazz. Its specialty is the choral music of the United States.
As a combined troupe, the U.S. Air Force Concert Band and Singing Sergeants have toured together for more than 60 years giving unique and inspiring musical performances of the highest professional and artistic quality.
