Ghosts, goblins, zombies and witches –– beware! The Second Annual Haunted Campground at Mozingo is this weekend –– Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24 and 25.
Co-chairpersons, Tom and Twyla Martin, said campers are encouraged to arrive early so they can find a spot –– no reservations will be taken –– it's on a first come, first serve basis.
"The campground fills up fast," Twyla said. "Last year we had to turn campers away. People started coming on Wednesday so they had time to decorate and get ready for the weekend."
Martin said last year there were haunted graveyards, mazes, games and lots and lots of treats.
"It's like one big Halloween party," Martin said. "Everyone has a really good time."
Friday night everyone is welcome to drive through the campground to enjoy the festive decorations –– weather permitting. But Saturday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., is strictly a walk through event. Children, adults –– anyone –– is invited to come in costume, get some treats and maybe be tricked at the same time.
First, second and third prizes will be given for the most creative, most elaborate, most original camp grounds. First prize will include a weekend at Mozingo, a $20 gift certificate from WalMart, two camp chairs and more. Second and third prizes are to be determined.
