As it turns out, drug-related arrests across southwestern Iowa and northwestern Missouri Wednesday reported by the office of Nicholas A. Klinefeldt, U.S. District Attorney for Southern Iowa, were only the tip of the iceberg.
Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White said Thursday that his office, acting in cooperation with law enforcement agencies in both states, obtained felony warrants charging more than 30 suspects with felony possession of methamphetamine "precursors" such as the cold-medicine ingredient ephedrine.
In addition, federal charges were filed in Council Bluffs, Iowa, against Orvis Lee Wagaman, 56, College Springs, Iowa; Edward Eugene Gray Sr., 52, Coin, Iowa; Edward Eugene Gray Jr., 32, Clarinda, Iowa; and Levi Edward Gray, 22, also of Clarinda. All four were reportedly being held in lieu of bond.
White said that during Thursday's multi-county sweep, a total of 25 people were arrested, leaving five suspects still at large. Some have been released on bond, but several remain in custody in various Iowa and Missouri jails, including the Nodaway County lock-up in Maryville...
