Maryville is soon to have a new Postmaster — Debra Hill's last day was Tuesday.

With more than 27 years of experience with the United States Postal Service, Hill has decided to enter into a new career in child care.

"I have enjoyed my career with the United States Postal Service," Hill said. "I have seen many, many changes in my career. When I began working for the the USPS, everything was done with a pen and paper and we figured all the rates from a manual list. I have experienced many updates and changes up to our current computers that do all the figures and rates for us."

Before beginning her official years with the USPS, Hill worked as a part-time employee as a Postmaster Relief in Galt, Mo. –– which was her home town.

In June 1982, Hill began her full-time career as a city carrier in Trenton, Mo.

In 1983, Hill and her husband and three daughters moved to Phoenix, Ariz. At that time she transferred to Sun City, Ariz. and moved to the clerk craft. During her career in Sun City, she worked as a window clerk, a distribution clerk, a full-time timekeeper and started a career in management. In 1988 Hill was promoted to supervisor of window services at the Sun City office.

In October 1989, the Hill family moved back to the midwest and Debra transferred to Clarinda, Iowa, as a clerk and later she became a city carrier.

In May 1990, the Hill family moved to Maryville. Debra continued working in Clarinda until the spring of 1991 when she was promoted to Postmaster in Skidmore, Mo.

In April 1993, after serving as Postmaster in Skidmore, she was promoted to supervisor in customer services in Maryville and then in October 2002 she became Postmaster of the Maryville Post Office.

"I just want to say 'thank you' to those who have worked along with me and for the dedication to the job of serving the community of Maryville," Hill said. "Most of all, I want to thank God for my family –– my husband Michael and daughters Lora Downing, Lesley Schulte and Lindsey Hill for all their support and patience during all these years."
