For the third time, Jennifer Hernandez had more than 11 inches cut from her hair to donate to Locks of Love. Tina Spurgin of Guys and Dolls Hair Studio gave Hernandez a cut and style Thursday morning.
The hair will be donated to Locks of Love, which provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under the age of 18 years, who are suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. The majority of the children lose their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure.
Hernandez’s mother, Mary Riley, was on hand for the event. She said it took her a long time to talk her daughter into donating her hair the first time.
“She bawled like a baby after she got it cut the first time,” Riley said. “I told her it would grow back. I'm so proud of her and I think about the little kids that are blessed by her donating he hair.”
Hernandez was told her hair was so thick, there was enough for two wigs the first time it was cut.
“I feel like I'm just doing my duty,” Hernandez said. “I cried the first time, the second time was no big deal and now the third time, I’m just glad to get it off my back.”
