Local chorister to perform classics in Europe

For those who have the talent and discipline to learn the craft, singing classical choral music has to be one of the most thrilling of all artistic pursuits. After all, how cool is it to give voice to thoughts and notes and harmonies created by such greats as Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Josef Haydn?

Maryville High School graduate and Northwest Missouri State University junior Steven Scheffe knows the rush. He sang in the MHS choral program for four years, and more recently has performed as a member of three university vocal ensembles. Two of them, Tower Choir and the Madraliers/Celebration Show Choir, require a rigorous audition process.

But soon Scheffe, a computer science major and music minor, will experience the biggest stage thrill of his young life — when he travels to Italy and Austria next week as part of a 10-day choral tour, during which he and 14 other singers will perform in some of Europe's most renowned churches and recital halls...
