The Hoof and Horn Saddle Club in Burlington Junction is sponsoring a poker run and fun day as a fundraiser to benefit Tom and Shirley Kagay –– who were injured in a September car accident.
The fundraiser is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18 at the arena in the Burlington Junction City park.
The poker run begins at 10 a.m. with arena events to follow. A $10 entry will cover the poker ride, as well as all horse activities.
A free will donation lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. near the arena. The menu consists of pulled pork sandwiches, potatoes and baked beans, salads and desserts.
Brion Cronk, president of the saddle club, said all money raised at the event will go to help the Kagay family with medical expenses.
“I hope we have a good day,” Cronk said. “The Kagays were injured in an accident and the saddle club members decided we wanted to do something to help them out. The money made at the poker run will all go to the Kagays. It’s not a fundraiser for the club.”
Fun day horse arena events include barrels, poles, keyhole, an egg and spoon race, an obstacle course, and mechanical head and heeling.
Prizes have been donated by local merchants and will be given for top poker hand and for the arena events.
Deloris Shipley, secretary for the saddle club, said she is excited the saddle club has the opportunity to show this support for the Kagay family.
“The goal of the saddle club is to promote family fun, horsemanship and friendly competition,” she said. “It’s nice that we can use these activities to also help support our members when they need it. The Kagays are members of the saddle club. They were on their way to purchase feed for their horses when the accident occurred.”
