How many of you have thought you had seen a shadow in the corner of your eye or even in the corner of your room? In his book, "Darkness Walks: The Shadow People Among Us," author Jason Offutt investigates this phenomenon. From the scientific details on what these "people" could be to several eyewitness accounts, the author takes you into the world filled with shadow people.

From the very beginning, Jason gives several different examples of what this phenomenon is or what it could be. In the section labelled "Science of the Shadow People," scientific experts give their explanations on what could be occurring during these events. Though the experts that Jason employs for this novel give some rational explanations why shadow people may be appearing, Jason never uses that information to dismiss first hand experiences with shadow people and allows the reader to keep an open mind to the happenings.

From there, Jason introduces us to the people and their experiences with the shadow people. (This is where things got really creepy for me.) One by one, the reader is introduced to a witness to these happenings. From Jim and Angie Dornbrook who saw the shadow as someone they knew, to Eric London who sees them as demons, you are brought into their experiences, each one creepier and more vivid than the last.

I'm not going to lie, I didn't finish this novel, (though I have skimmed through the rest). That is not to say that it isn't any good. It is quite the opposite. The depth and detail that Jason goes into his investigation on the concept of these shadow people is phenomenal. He takes you through what they scientifically could be, to what other cultures may see them as, into several different experiences, and finally to what has been done to be rid of them.

For those who want to know or just understand the world of the shadow people, you should pick up this book. This is a very real reference guide on Shadow People, what they can do, and what different cultures and sciences think they are. Though you may get creeped out along the way, Jason has a way of drawing you back to each story. He writes with such passion and gives every story equal importance.

So why didn't I finish this book. To be honest, it really creeped me out. Just the thought of these entities seeking me out or appearing before me was horrifying. Plus one day, while reading, I thought I saw something in the television that could have been a shadow person. Luckily, for me, it was just my reflection.
