ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The music department at Missouri Western State University will host its seventh annual St. Joseph International Guitar Festival and Competition May 19-23. Headline performers include Joseph Williams II and Duo LiveOak. Tickets for the headline concerts and finals competition are $10 for the general public and $5 for students, seniors and Western faculty and staff. The Baccalaureate service for the Maryville R-II School District will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 9, at the First United Methodist Church, 102 North Main. Baccalaureate services for North Nodaway R-6 will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7, at the Hopkins Christian Church.
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. — The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced several roadwork projects scheduled for Nodaway County this week.
The City of Maryville and Northwest Missouri State University will host an Arbor Day event at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, at the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship on the north end of the Northwest campus. During the event, fourth-grade students from Horace Mann Laboratory School, St. Gregory's School and Eugene Field Elementary School will plant trees at the CIE, and Mayor Chad Jackson will read an Arbor Day proclamation.
As temperatures warm up across Nodaway County, so are volunteers from St. Gregory's School in Maryville as they prepare for the annual Parent/Teacher Organization spring rummage sale. This year's sale will take place Thursday, April 22, and Friday, April 23, at the Maryville American Legion building, 1104 East Fifth Street. Sale hours are 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on Friday.

The program recognizes students at each grade level for exhibiting a specific character trait. Students in the accompanying pictures were recognized in March when the emphasized trait was "cooperation." The pizza and lemonade lunches are served in the school office conference room.
Registration for 2010-2011 preschool at Eugene Field Elementary School in Maryville will take place Tuesday, April 6, through Thursday, April 8. Registration hours are: 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, and 6:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday. Program placement will be determined by lottery, so parents signing up during the registration events will have an equal chance at their choice of times.
The St. Gregory's School Parent/Teacher Organization has teamed with Maryville businesses to offer the 2010 Falcon Card. Cards cost $10 each and can be used to obtain discounts from a number of local businesses. Buy cards from participating stores, at St. Gregory's School (315 South Davis) or from PTO members.
Maryville R-II public schools will close Thursday, March 18, and Friday, March 19, so that students, teachers and staff can attend the girls' high school Class 3 state basketball championship tournament in Columbia. The Spoofhounds (25-3) qualified for the state tourney on Saturday in Sedalia with a 46-30 victory against Stockton. The team will face Mount Vernon (28-3) in the Class 3 semifinals at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at Mizzou Arena.
Spoofy the Spoofhound, the popular mascot of Maryville High School, originated in the 1920s, and different versions of Spoofy created over the decades are included in a mural in the MHS commons area. The Maryville R-II School District Education Foundation is hoping that fond memories of Spoofy will encourage MHS alumni to submit information to be included in a new database. Once launched, the database will be used for fundraising and as a means of keeping MHS graduates connected to their Spooofhound past.
More than 85 future MHS freshman and their families took a step into high-school life Monday evening. The annual MHS Showcase offered current eight grade students and families a chance to meet their future teachers and classmates. Maryville R-II schools will close early today, Friday, Feb. 19. Eugene Field Elementary School will close at 11 a.m. The high school and middle school will close at 11:15 a.m.

The Maryville R-II School Board will meet in regular session beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the district office adjoining the Maryville High School campus.
Dr. Jerry Wilmes, Maryville, has been selected as an American College Health Association Fellow.
Wilmes has worked as Northwest Missouri State University's chief medical officer for the past two decades and also serves as the institution's crisis coordinator.

Northwest Missouri State University has announced the appointment of a new vice president of finance. Northwest Missouri native Stacy Carrick will begin her new duties in February.
