Northwest Missouri State University's College of Education and Human Services has announced the recipients of this year's Dean’s Faculty Awards.

Presented by CEHS Interim Dean Joyce Piveral for accomplishments during the previous academic year, the awards honor faculty excellence in research, teaching and service.

This year's winners were April Haberyan, associate professor of psychology, sociology and counseling (teaching(; Carol Tjeerdsma, instructor of curriculum and instruction, (service); and Rheba Vetter, associate professor of health, physical education, recreation and dance (research).

As a member of the university’s Crisis Response Team, Haberyan has helped students create disaster plans using course materials and resources gleaned from mental health and law enforcement professionals. She has also introduced two new psychology courses at the university, initiated curriculum changes and helped found the new interdisciplinary crisis response minor.

A member of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction for 16 years, Tjeerdsma teaches a number of courses, including special education, designed to train future classroom professionals. She is the former chair of the college's Diversity Team and has served on the board of directors for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nodaway County...
