U.S. Rep. Sam Graves on Wednesday appeared before members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to advocate for continued federal funding for so-called BRO bridges.
BRO stands for stands Bridge Replacement Off-System, and the spans funded by the program are usually built over creeks and rivers crossed by county gravel roads in predominantly rural states like Missouri.
In the wake of Graves' remarks to the committee in Washington, members of the Nodaway County Commission underscored the importance of BRO funding locally. Nodaway County, they pointed out, has nearly 400 rural bridges, 1,200 miles of rural roads and the fifth-largest land area of any county in the state...
