A Conception Junction man suffered moderate injuries Thursday in a one-vehicle accident on 290th Street, a gravel road near the junction of routes V and H five miles southwest of Maryville.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Arlin A. Milligan, 55, was eastbound at about 8:15 a.m. in a blue 1993 Chevrolet Blazer when he traveled off the south side of the road and overturned, crashing into a utility pole.
Nodaway County Sheriff Darren White said Milligan claimed he was forced off the road by another vehicle that left the scene. White added that the incident was reported by a first-responder on her way to work who saw the wrecked vehicle and called 911.
The United Electric Cooperative power pole broke in half when the truck hit it, and a crew was dispatched to shut off the power. Rescuers then cut a hole in the roof of the vehicle and extricated Milligan, who was taken by Nodaway County ambulance to St. Francis Hospital & Health Services in Maryville.
He was not wearing a seat belt, according to the patrol report. The Blazer was reported totaled and towed from the scene.
Trooper H.G. Vernon was assisted in working the accident by patrol Cpl. S.E. Pritzel, the Nodaway County Sheriff's Office and Polk Township first-responders.
