The Lady Spoofhound golf team took their sixth-consecutive district championship on Wednesday, beating Tarkio by five total strokes.
Maryville shot a 427 over 18 holes to get the win, and all five golfers qualified for the sectional tournament.
To top that off, Cassie Holtman, Ali Throm, Hannah Brod, Mollie Holtman and Anna Swink were all named to the All-District team.
"The girls were elated," head coach Brenda Ricks said. "The girls knew that we had a shot at winning, but they also knew it wasn't going to be an easy win.
"When you are playing golf it is so easy to see where you could have taken a stroke off here or there and think that you should or could have shot better. I kept encouraging them to remember our quote of the season 'The most important shot is the next one.' They were able to do that and come up with the win."
Cassie Holtman finished the district match with a 98, Throm and Brod tied for eighth with a 108, Mollie Holtman took 14th with a 113, and Swink was right behind her at 15th with a score of 119.
Ricks and the team, though coming from a history rich in good golfers, took the match seriously, and the home-course advantage helped.
Ricks said that four teams were favored to win, Bishop LeBlond (fourth), Tarkio (second), Savannah (third) and Maryville.
The Hounds had lost to LeBlond and Savannah, and Maryville tied with Savannah at the conference tourney.
"I had confidence in the girls' abilities, but we respect the game of golf enough to know that anything can happen," Ricks said. "I knew we had the home-course advantage, but the biggest opponent for the girls is the golf course.
"When they go out to compete they are actually going against the golf course and Mother Nature and both of those can throw some curveballs sometimes."
Sectionals begin on Monday, so the team will have the weekend to re-focus and enjoy their win that Ricks contributes to hard work and team chemistry.
"I'm so very proud that all five walked away with All-District honors," Ricks said. "Their scores were all fairly close. We will have to take some strokes off to come out of sectionals as a team. I think we can do that."
