John Wesley Albee, 89, of Hannibal, MO, and formerly of St. Joseph, MO, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 4:50 PM, on Saturday, August 17, 2013, in Hannibal, MO. Graveside Services will be at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at the St. Joseph Memorial Park and Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO, where the interment will follow. His son, Pastor Mark Albee, will officiate. Full Military Rights will be provided by the United States Military Honors Team. The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO, is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be from 1:30 until time of service, Tuesday, at the St. Joseph Memorial Park and Cemetery in St. Joseph, MO.
Mr. Albee was born June 26, 1924, in St. Joseph, MO, to Charles Ansel and Velma Ruse Albee.
He was married to Ida Jean Lott in October 1946 in St. Joseph, MO. She preceded him in death in May of 2004.
Survivors include his sons, Gregg Albee (Linda) of Overland Park, KS, and Mark Albee (Julie) of Hannibal, MO; his brother, Rodney Albee (JoAnn) of Hiawatha, KS; his grandchildren, Tim Albee and Hillary and Luke Deichman of Fairfax, VA, Christina Albee of Virginia Beach, VA, and Ben Albee of Moberly, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death also by his parents; his daughter, Jean Ann Albee; his brother, Dave Albee; his step-sister, Ruth Albee Long; his step-brother, Herb Albee; and his great niece, Jourdan Albee.
Mr. Albee graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO, class of 1942. He served in United States Army during WWII with the field artillery in the European Theater. He was privileged to visit the WWII Memorial in Washington, DC, with the Great River Honor Flight in 2010. Mr. Albee was employed as a cattle salesman with the Farmers Union Livestock Company in St. Joseph, MO, and then retired as a district manager for the Producers Livestock Association in Eldridge, IA. After retirement, John and his wife moved to the St. Joseph, MO, and Maryville, MO, area, then John moved to Hannibal, MO, to live close to his grandchildren. John always had a restaurant to recommend when anyone traveled, and he enjoyed food and eating out. He was an avid fan to the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat Football team and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church or The Great River Honor Flight , in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
After the graveside ceremony, the immediate family will gather at King Hill Baptist Church, St. Joseph, MO, until 5:00 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to stop by and visit.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Albee, Ben Albee, Stan Albee, Steve Albee, Jim Benson, David Hinton, and Jim Reynolds.
