Members of the Northwest Pride 10 and under girls' fastpitch softball team most certainly enjoyed their fourth of July weekend.
A team made up of girls from around northwest Missouri, the Pride went undefeated and captured the state title at the 10-U State Tournament in Independence. The tournament began Friday and concluded Sunday.
Coming off a 2nd place finish in the St. Joe Classic, the Pride hoped to polish off any rough edges by this tournament. They did just that shutting out the one team who beat them during the St. Joe Classic 4-0.
Pitcher Ashlyn Alexander thew two no-hitters striking out 11 of the 13 batters she faced one game and 11 of 17 the next. She finished the tournament with 45 strike outs.
Offensively, the Pride were right on track as well. Jaytin Sybert finished with two RBIs and three singles, Jenny Finch had an RBI, Daniell Brandon had two RBIs and two singles, Ella Bruner had two RBIs and two singles, Taylor Williams had three singles and two RBIs, Autumn Murry had two singles, Gabby Newman had three RBIs and four singles and Ashlyn Alexander had four RBIs, four singles and two doubles.
The Pride end their summer season by traveling to Branson for the World Series Tournament this month.
