Twelve local country musicians took their talents to the stage on Saturday for the first-ever Texaco Country Showdown at Mozingo Lake Recreation Park.
The event was part of a national talent search, and the local portion will conclude on July 19 during the Nodaway County Fair.
All of the competitors passed the preliminary round on Saturday, so each will get a chance to continue in the Showdown at a higher level.
Michael Goff was the "people's choice" winner Saturday, and KNIM traffic director Gina Keyes said that the talent appeared fairly even.
Eleven of the twelve competitors were individuals, the remaining act was a trio.
Entertainers during the final round at the fair will be Andy Campbell, The Capers Trio, Tim Clark, Tabi Clements, Tyler Folkerts, Michael Goff, Allison Hunt, Matthew Mularoni, Codi Nuckolls, Maddie VonBehren and Dakota Walker.
After hearing about the national event, Keyes and KNIM sales manager Joyce Cronin thought that it would be a great way give local talents a shot at the big-time in Nashville.
People attending the concert texted in their votes, which were announced Monday.
Keyes and Cronin both called the event a success and want to repeat it next year.
"We have had great support from not only sponsors, but everyone involved," Cronin said. "People have been thrilled about this."
