Northwest Missouri State University's Department of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the appointment of Kathryn E. Strickland as director of athletic bands and assistant professor of percussion.
Strickland, who is to begin work in August, is completing a doctoral degree at Louisiana State University, where she also earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music education.
While at LSU, Strickland taught a variety of music education courses, conducted the Bengal Brass Pep Band and served as composer, arranger and conductor of the LSU Drumline. Earlier in her career she spent 12 years teaching in Louisiana public schools.
Strickland is an honorary member of the Kappa Kappa Psi national band fraternity, the Louisiana Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the National Band Association, the Percussive Arts Society and the Phi Beta Mu bandmasters fraternity.
In February, Northwest announced the appointment of John Bell as director of bands. With the addition of Strickland, the department will have three band directors with a combined total of nearly 50 years of public school teaching experience.
