Edith Cathrine Metzgar, 94, Mound City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Tiffany Heights Care Center in Mound City.
She was born December 1, 1918 in Fairfax, Missouri, to Robert and Lila (Curry) Thomson.
Edith graduated from Fairfax High School in 1936. She attended Park College then graduated from Platte-Guard Secretarial School in St. Joseph.
She worked at Sunflower Ammunition Plant in the Kansas City, Kansas area. Later she worked for the government at AAA Farm Agency in Mound City.
In 1943 Edith married Edgar L. Metzgar. They made their home on the family farm near Mound City. He preceded her in death in 1987.
Edith was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairfax and the Fairfax Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, gardening and spending time with her family and their many activities. She will be sadly missed by her family and all who knew her.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert C. Thomson; sisters, Julia Thomson, Helen Lytle, and Esther Thomson; and infant granddaughter, Jenny Leann Metzgar.
Survivors: son, William E. ìBillî Metzgar (Karma), Mound City, Missouri; daughters, Lila Metzgar and Ann Metzgar, Kansas City, Missouri; two granddaughters, Catherine Metzgar, State College, Pennsylvania, and Carina Metzgar, Mound City, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday, Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Sunday, Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, where friends may call after 2:00 P.M. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First Christian Church of Mound City.
