Already generating buzz in NFL circles, defensive lineman Travis Chappelear enhanced his Draft stock at Northwest Missouri State's pro day workout Friday at Bearcat Stadium.
With NFL scouts from seven different organizations in attendance, Chappelear benched 34 reps of 225 pounds—fourth-best among all defensive lineman and second-best among all linebackers based on NFL Combine numbers.
Chappelear also ran a 40-yard dash time of 4.7 that ranks in the top 10 among all defensive lineman and top 15 of all linebackers. He added a 37 inch vertical jump, tied for third among defensive lineman.
A native of Urbana, Chappelear (6-5, 275) was Northwest's third leading tackler last year with 62 from the nose tackle position.
He made first team-All MIAA and was an honorable mention selection on the Don Hansen All-American Team.
Chappelear was joined at the workout by Northwest running back/return man Jordan Simmons, kicker Todd Adolf, offensive tackle Rod Williams and wide receiver John Hinchey. Tyler Shaw attended Missouri Western's pro day in St. Joseph.
The Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders were represented at Northwest's pro day.
Simmons has an upcoming meeting scheduled with the Chiefs. Chappelear will visit with the Jets in the near future.
