Air Rock, a tradition at Maryville High School, is set for 7:30 p.m. on April 6 in the gymnasium.
The event has been held since the 1980’s, and involves students lip-syncing songs as part of “air” bands.
It is sponsored by the Project Prom/Graduation committee, and is held as a fundraising event.
This year, a canned food drive is being held at MHS beginning March 25 and ending April 3.
Fans can vote for their favorite band by donating canned food. The band with the most cans at the end of the drive will get to select their order of performance the night of the competition.
Tickets will be on sale at the MHS office the week prior to the event.
The cost is $3 for students, $4 for adults and $1 for children 10 and under. At the door, tickets will be a dollar more for each age group. T-shirts are also being sold for $10.
Competing bands will include The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Def Leopard, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Journey, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister and The Who.
They will be judged on costumes, stage presence ___
All of the food collected will be given to the Ministry Center to help with the annual Feinstein food challenge, in which the Feinstein family will match all donations up to $1 million.
Concessions will be available at the event, and there is another change this year.
No bags, purses or outside food/drink will be allowed.
