Local egg hunts return on Easter weekend

There should be no shortage of candy for local youngsters over Easter weekend, with egg hunts planned for both Saturday and Sunday.

The Maryville Host Lions Club will host its 31st annual hunt from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at Donaldson-Westside Park. In addition, the Northwest Missouri State University chapter of the Phi Delta Theta has planned a similar event for 1 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at Beal Park.

Both events are free and open to all children and their families.

As usual at the Lion's egg hunt, the Easter Bunny will be on hand to greet participating children, and there will be special prize eggs for each age group.

Separate hunts will take place for children ages 3 and under (10-10:10 a.m.); ages 4 and 5 (10:15-10:25 a.m.); ages 6 and 7 (10:30-10:40 a.m.); and age 8 (10:45-10:55 a.m.).
On Easter Sunday, in addition to a field full of candy-filled eggs, Phi Delta Theta members will offer a raffle and face-painting.

Proceeds will benefit the ALS Association, an organization dedicated to fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more commonly called Lou Gehrig's disease after the Hall of Fame baseball player whose life it claimed.
