  • Students from Horace Mann Laboratory School recently competed in a regional math competition in Warrensburg.
    Sixteen schools took part n the contest. Participants from Horace Mann were:
    ∙Sixth-graders Ben Orshiso, Will Mattock, Sarah Richardson, Kate Yocum and Ethan Hung.
    ∙Fifth-graders Natalie Gallaher, Trent Shell, Morgan Pettlon, Savannah Erickson and Ethan Adwell.
    ∙Fourth-graders Nate Sparks, Caleb Kreizinger, Ethan Payne and Marc Gustafson.
    Accompanying teachers were Linda Heeler and Sara Rogers.
    Local students placing in the contest included Payne, fourth place in problem solving; Richardson, fifth place in problem solving; Hung, Orshiso and Mattock, sixth place in problem solving; and Yocum, seventh place in problem solving.
    Kreizinger took second in concepts, and Hung took third. Both will move on to state-level competition, also in Warrensburg, on April 27.
    The Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics sponsored the contest, in which more than 2,500 students competed at 21 regional sites statewide.
