  • A group of Maryville Middle School eighth-graders paid a visit to the Clarinda Regional Health Center last week.
The purpose of the visit was to job shadow the various jobs and roles of health care professionals.
Students were also able to visit with the MercyOne-Clarinda medical helicopter crew, learn about the helicopter, the flight service and what type of education it takes to become a flight paramedic or flight nurse.
A total of 16 students separated into smaller groups to spend an hour or two job-shadowing throughout the facility.
Students experienced the departments of emergency, surgery, radiology, physical therapy, information technology, social services, wound care, diabetes education, respiratory therapy, pharmacy and the specialty physicians' clinic.
MMS teacher Becky Byland said the trip was very informational for the students.
Students involved with the trip to Clarinda had previously identified themselves as having a future career interest in the healthcare area.
