  • Sabrina Olson, a seventh-grader at St. Gregory's School, will compete in the state geography bee next month. It is the third time she has qualified for the event.
In 2012, Olson advanced to the tie-breaker round, and ended up just one question shy from advancing to nationals.
This year's state bee will be held at Moberly Area Community College on April 5.
The state winner will receive $100 and a trip to Washington, D.C., in order to represent Missouri in the national finals, which will be held at the National Geographic Society in May.
The first-place national winner will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, a lifetime membership in the society and an all-expenses paid trip with a parent or guardian to the Galapagos Islands.
The national contest is to be aired on the National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild on May 23. "Jeopardy" host Alex Trebek will serve as moderator.
