William Forrest “Bill” Phares, 90, John Knox Village, died March 3, 2013 at the care facility.
Mr. Phares was born June 15, 1922 to Maude Bainum and William Forrest Phares, Sr., in Maryville.
He graduated from Maryville High School and attended University of Missouri - Columbia. He served in the US Army during World War II.
Mr. Phares married Betty Utter in 1945.
Mr. Phares and his father owned Phares Oil Co, Maryville. He also worked at Consumers Oil Co., Maryville and later in life at Premium Savings and Loan in Arizona.
He was active in the Maryville community; a charter member of the Optimist Club, Maryville Country Club member, a Northwest Missouri State University Board of Regent and other activities that involved youth.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, William Forrest Phares, Jr., Phoenix, AZ; Joseph Curtis Phares, Kansas City; two sisters, Frances Alldredge, Harrison, AR; Jean Elkins, St. Joseph and other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by a nephew: Dan Elkins.
Burial will be in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS.
