Sophomore Chloe Wichman rallied to finish fourth in the pentathlon and improve her NCAA provisional mark on the first day of the 2013 MIAA Indoor Championships Friday.
Wichman won the 800-meters, the final event of the day, to help make her final push to fourth. The Kirksville native also finished second in the high jump and 60-meter hurdles to finish with 3408 points, a personal best.
The 3408 points move her into the top 15 of the nation while Zoe Sharplin of Central Missouri claimed the pentathlon title followed by Lincoln's Sheri Kaye Campbell.
Jessica Hugo finished ninth for the Bearcats as Adrienne Cornelius finished 13th.
For the Bearcat men, Seth Staashelm and Logann Halloran sit 10th and 11th respectively after day one of the heptathlon. Staashelm holds 2540 points while Halloran finished the first day with 2394 points.
Central Missouri's Brent Vogel sits in first with 3015 points. Vogel also has the best point total in the nation, a mark he earned in December.
Day two of the MIAA Championships kicks off Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m., with the heptathlon 60-meter hurdles. Field event finals begin at 1:45 p.m., followed by running event preliminaries starting at 4 p.m.
