  • The West Nodaway FFA chapter has claimed success following its Tuesday blood drive.
FFA advisor Kenny Wilmes said 48 units of blood were donated by 47 donors, exceeding the Community Blood Center's 40-unit goal.
The event was themed "have a heart, save a life," and donors were given the opportunity to sign a heart-shaped banner in honor of a loved one.
"A special thanks goes out to FFA members who worked or donated, and to all the West Nodaway staff that helped or donated cookies," Wilmes said.
Cake for the event was provided by the Maryville Hy-Vee supermarket. Walmart donated sandwiches.
Exceeding its goal means that West Nodaway will receive an Outstanding High School Award from the Community Blood Center this spring.
Community Blood Center is the sole supplier of blood products to area medical facilities, including St. Francis Hospital & Health Services.
Their next West Nodaway FFA blood drive is scheduled for April 30.
